Welcome Home

Welcome Home is one of the eight large hearts painted for the 2019 Hearts in San Francisco project. The design is reflective of the excitement and beauty that SF has to offer. I wanted to include all of the interesting architecture and small details that make up the city. There is a nod to all three Bay Area sports teams, a flowing cup of coffee, a towering cone of ice cream, and a cable car front and center. All of the elements are hugged by the infamous Carl the Fog while the sun shines bright.

This heart raised $50,000 for Zuckerberg General Hospital’s ER. It currently resides in Twitter’s San Francisco office.

The heart in Union Square, San Francisco

" Whether you’re new to the city or have been here for years, you can still enjoy a ride on a cable car or take a walk across the Golden Gate Bridge. I chose to put a lot of the more identifiable locations like Lombard street, the Transamerica pyramid, and city hall, but I also wanted to include some more subtle sf traits like the old muni bus transfers- which also happen to be the Warriors colors and have Steph curry and Klay Thompson’s numbers on them. All of the items on the heart are enveloped by clouds of fog, which is quintessential sf.

I chose the name Welcome Home because it has dual meaning to it. The beauty of San Francisco can be seen as a sign of greeting to new comers and can also be a welcome back to San Francisco natives who have left and are returning. I’m lucky to have grown up in such a cool and diverse community and I continue to love it everyday. And of course I included the phrase left my heart in San Francisco because it just seemed fitting."
